Sugar Skulls – A T-Shirt for Diabetes Awareness
Hope For a Cure Diabetes Awareness Shirts are designed by volunteers with The Diabetes Education Program of The Alliance for Diabetes in the Pacific Northwest, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people who have diabetes and their families. Hope For a Cure is a national nonprofit membership organization that has chapters in all fifty states. Diabetes does not choose who we are. It chooses who we are. It takes an understanding of this disease and an understanding of each other to bring people from all walks of life together to share a common goal. In partnership with the American Diabetes Association and The Alliance for Diabetes in the Pacific Northwest, Hope for a Cure offers creative ways to raise funds for clinical trials, educational programming and community activities that focus on living with diabetes.
The design of this popular t-shirt is a work of humor that draws from the familiar motifs and subject matter of a wide range of well-known popular media sources, most notably, but not limited to, the famous Austin Powers, Happy Days, or Scrubs. There are also references to the band Queen (i.e. “I’m a sucker for a beat and I’ll wear anything,” in reference to their famous song “We Are The Champions.” The t-shirts are sold separately, as well as being available as a embroidered logo-embroidered, pre-sized, high-quality baby doll dress. If ordered in multiple quantities, the buyer can receive up to three free additional free t-shirts.
